Studio A contains a 19′ by 20′ control room and two tracking rooms: a 30′ by 24′ space (tracking room A) and a 36′ by 24′ space featuring 12-foot ceilings (tracking room B). Tracking room B has a Yamaha C7 grand piano with disclavier and two isolation booths (9′ by 6′ and 11′ by 7′).

Control Room A is built around a Neve VR 36-Channel Console that is 5.1 capable, an API 1604 sidecar console and digital tracking via Protools HD3.

Studio A was designed by Alan Stewart, Great Britain’s leading studio designer.  His clients have included Eric Clapton, The Beatles (Abbey Road Studios) and virtually every major recording venue in England.  His only other US design is Jimi Hendrix’s Electric Ladyland in New York.  His goal at Young Avenue was to create a world-class acoustic environment within the concrete and steel building shell, that incorporates warm, comfortable textures and colors to create the unique vibe enjoyed by our clients.  The drum platform in tracking room A is one of Alan’s signature design features, with a shape much like the horn on a large speaker system, that is specifically engineered for maximum acoustic projection of non-amplified sounds like drums, choruses and any acoustic instrument.  This room also utilizes rolling sound baffles, mirrors and adjustable shades and drapes to permit a level of “tuning” the space for different recording environments.

Tracking room B, which incorporates two isolated windowed vocal/instrumental booths, is carefully shaped and finished to maximize recording accuracy of the studio’s Yamaha C7 grand piano.  It also contains two large windowed seven foot movable sound baffles that permit reshaping and isolating spaces, in addition to the two iso-booths, to enable multiple artists to share the space while being able to see and interact with each other while recording.  This has proven particularly useful for acoustic jazz and blues recordings.
